Pettersson & Fredriksson – Nyckelharpa und Nordic Mandola – ein tolles Duo aus Schweden mit einem grossartigen nordischen Sound.
Daniel Fredriksson war 2009 in beim TFF Rudolstadt am Magic Lute Project beteiligt (siehe meinen Blogbeitrag vor einigen Tagen).
Daniel Fredriksson spielt eine Nordic Mandola, ein Instrument das in den 1980er Jahren von Ale Möller zusammen mit zwei Instrumentenbauern konzipiert wurde.
The history of the nordic mandola is rather short – it was developed by swedish multi-musician Ale Möller and luthiers Christer Ådin and Anders Ekvall in the 80s.
Die Nordic Mandola ist ein Instrument mit 10 Saiten in 5 Chören, dabei sind die beiden tiefen Saiten verlängert. Normalerweise wäre die Stimmung eines solchen Instrumente:
C – G – D – A- E
Durch das Verlängern der Saiten ist die tiefste (5.) Saite nun auf A gestimmt, die zweittiefste (4.) auf F. Durch spezielle Mini-Kapos (Pin Point Capos) kann jede Saite aber um ein oder mehrere Halbtöne nach oben gestimmt werden, je nachdem welche Basstöne man für ein Stück braucht. Es ist also auch die Stimmung C G D A E wie bei einem Liuto möglich.
Most nordic mandolas have 5 choruses, with octaves on the C and G string.
But here’s the little peculiarity with this instrument. As Ale and Ådin/Ekvall developed the instrument, they found a need to be able to have different drones in the base. This led to the invention of something called “pin point capos”. The pin point capo is a little screw with a rubber packing on it which goes into holes drilled in the fretboard. This allows for shortening of single strings, and thus being able to change the base notes – without changing the tuning. The base strings are usually elongated/theorbed so the lowest string goes down to A, and the second goes to F.
Mit der Nordic Mandola kann man sehr tiefe Töne spielen – es klingt richtig nach Bass – das kann man bei einigen Stücken aus der neuen CD sehr gut hören. Auf den hohen Saiten kann man gut Melodien oder Akkorde spielen. Die Nordic Mandola ist also ein sehr vielseitiges Instrument, ideal für die Duo-Besetzung wie bei Pettersson &Fredriksson
